While the forms have changed, the human heart has not.

Yet Scripture points believers in an entirely different direction. Our strength is never found within ourselves. It is found in God.

The enemy has often taken good desires—such as the longing for love, purpose, dignity, and belonging—and redirected them toward false objects of worship. This has happened repeatedly throughout history…And it continues today.
Social Media and the Normalization of Witchcraft
Never before has occult spirituality been so accessible. A few moments on social media can expose someone to countless videos promoting spell jars, tarot readings, crystal healing, astrology, moon water, manifestation rituals, and “baby witch” tutorials. Practices that once remained hidden are now presented as beautiful, peaceful, and harmless forms of self-care or personal growth.
For many young people, witchcraft no longer appears mysterious or dangerous.

The popularity of Wicca should not surprise Christians. Scripture repeatedly foretells that spiritual deception would increase before Christ’s return. The more our world moves away from God’s Word, the more it naturally seeks substitute spiritualities to fill the void. But beneath every modern expression lies an ancient question that has confronted humanity since the Garden of Eden: Will we seek wisdom from the Creator…or from another source?
That question leads us directly into one of the oldest forms of deception recorded in Scripture—the worship of the Divine Feminine, a pattern that repeatedly surfaced in the rise and fall of ancient civilizations.
The Ancient Worship of the Divine Feminine
One of the most striking discoveries when studying Wicca is that many of its central ideas are not new at all. Long before modern witchcraft emerged, ancient civilizations throughout the world worshipped female deities associated with fertility, nature, the moon, wisdom, motherhood, sexuality, and the earth itself. 🔎 Solomon, the wisest king who ever lived apart from Christ, allowed foreign influences to draw his heart away from wholehearted devotion to God. This should not surprise us. Satan rarely creates entirely new deceptions. More often, he repackages ancient lies in forms that appeal to each new generation. What was once practiced in temples is now shared through social media. What was once taught by pagan priests is now presented through influencers, bestselling books, and online communities. The clothing has changed, but the underlying spiritual message remains strikingly familiar.
As believers, however, we must be careful not to view this merely as an interesting lesson in history. The deeper issue has never been the names of the goddesses. It has always been the object of worship.
Every false religion ultimately directs hearts away from the Creator and toward something within creation. Whether that object is the sun, the moon, nature, ancestors, idols, or the exaltation of humanity itself, the result is the same. Only the Lord is worthy of worship. And every person must choose which voice they will follow. From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture never presents witchcraft, sorcery, divination, or communication with spiritual powers as harmless forms of spirituality. Instead, these practices are consistently grouped with idolatry because they seek supernatural guidance and power apart from the Lord.
God’s warnings are not isolated to a single passage or confined to the Old Testament. They appear throughout the entire Bible. This consistency reveals just how seriously He views the occult.
God Forbids Divination and Witchcraft
Before Israel entered the Promised Land, God warned His people that they would encounter nations deeply involved in occult practices. Rather than adopting those customs, they were to remain completely separate from them.

Why Does God Call These Practices an Abomination?
Some readers may wonder why Scripture uses such strong language. Why would practices that many consider harmless be described as an “abomination”? The answer is found in God’s character.

The danger arises when they become part of a spiritual system that encourages people to seek supernatural guidance, protection, or power apart from the Lord. Throughout history, idolatry has rarely appeared frightening. It usually appeared beautiful.

🔸 The idols of Babylon were magnificent works of art.
🔸 The temples of Greece and Rome inspired awe.
The attraction of false worship has never depended upon ugliness. It has depended upon deception. The apostle John therefore gives believers a simple but profound command.
📖 1 John 4:1 – “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God…”
🔎 Christians are never instructed to accept every spiritual experience simply because it feels peaceful or uplifting. Instead, we are commanded to test every spirit by the truth of God’s Word. Feelings, experiences, and supernatural events must always remain subject to Scripture.
This principle is especially important today. Many people assume that because they experienced peace during a ritual…Or because a tarot reading seemed accurate…Or because a crystal brought comfort…The practice must therefore be from God.
But personal experience has never been God’s standard for truth. Truth is measured by His Word. This is why miracles alone cannot authenticate a spiritual movement. Even supernatural signs can be counterfeited. Jesus Himself warned His followers:

🔹 It asks, “Does this lead me closer to Jesus Christ?”
That question changes everything. Something may appear peaceful…Beautiful…Natural…Empowering…Even miraculous…Yet if it draws our trust away from God and toward another spiritual source, it ultimately leads in the wrong direction. That has been true since Eden. And it remains true today.
Yet there is another deception quietly spreading alongside modern witchcraft. Many now attempt to combine biblical language with occult practices, creating a mixture that Scripture never permits. Some speak of “Christian witches,” “Christian tarot,” or using crystals, manifestation, and energy healing while still claiming to follow Jesus.
Can light and darkness truly be blended together? The Bible gives a clear answer.
Can Christianity and Witchcraft Be Mixed?
One of the fastest-growing spiritual trends today is not simply the practice of Wicca itself, but the attempt to combine biblical language with occult beliefs. Across social media and online communities, phrases such as “Christian witch,” “Christian tarot,” “Spirit-led manifestation,” and “Jesus-centered crystals” are becoming increasingly common. Some claim they use spells only for healing. Others pray to Jesus while consulting tarot cards or seek guidance from God while also practicing astrology, energy healing, moon rituals, or communicating with spirit guides.
To many, this appears to be a harmless blending of traditions. After all, they still speak about Jesus. They still quote Bible verses. They still pray. Surely adding a few spiritual practices cannot matter that much.
Yet the Bible consistently teaches that God does not share His worship with competing spiritual systems. Throughout Israel’s history, one of the greatest sins was not abandoning God entirely. It was attempting to worship Him alongside pagan practices. The Lord repeatedly called His people back to wholehearted devotion.
📖 Exodus 20:3 – “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
🔎 The first commandment establishes the foundation of all true worship. God does not ask to become one spiritual influence among many. He alone is worthy of our complete trust, worship, and obedience.
The apostle Paul gives an equally clear warning to Christians.
📖 2 Corinthians 6:14–16 – “…what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?… and what agreement hath the temple of God with idols?”
🔎 Paul uses a series of powerful questions to show that truth and error cannot be blended into a single spiritual path. Just as light naturally drives away darkness, genuine faith in Christ cannot be combined with practices rooted in occultism or idolatry.
This principle appears throughout the New Testament.
🔸 The Holy Spirit never shares His role with spirit guides.
🔸 Prayer is never supplemented by divination.
🔸 The Word of God is never enhanced by tarot cards.
🔸 Faith never requires astrology.
🔸 The gospel never calls believers to manipulate spiritual forces through rituals or spells.
Jesus Christ is completely sufficient. Attempting to combine Christianity with occult practices often comes from sincere motives. Some people simply desire a deeper spiritual experience. Others are searching for healing, protection, or guidance during difficult seasons of life. Yet sincerity does not transform error into truth. A mixture of truth and error is still error. This is precisely why the apostle Paul warned believers against accepting “another gospel.”
📖 Galatians 1:8 – “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you… let him be accursed.”
🔎 From the earliest days of the church, Satan has sought not only to oppose the gospel but also to alter it. Sometimes that alteration comes through legalism. Other times it comes through pagan philosophy or mystical spirituality. Whenever Christ is no longer viewed as completely sufficient, something else inevitably takes His place.
The apostle John offers one of the simplest tests of genuine Christianity.
📖 1 John 5:21 – “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”
🔎 John’s final instruction may seem surprisingly brief, but it captures a timeless truth. Anything that competes with God for our trust, affection, dependence, or worship becomes an idol, regardless of its outward appearance. Modern idols may not always be carved from stone or wood. They may come in the form of spiritual practices, mystical experiences, or promises of hidden knowledge that quietly draw hearts away from Christ.
This is why Christianity cannot be blended with Wicca. Not because Christians fear spiritual power. But because they already know the One who possesses all power.
📖 Matthew 28:18 – “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
🔎 The believer does not need spells because Christ is Lord.
🔹 The believer does not need spirit guides because the Holy Spirit guides into all truth.
🔹 The believer does not need crystals for protection because Christ is our refuge.
🔹 The believer does not need hidden knowledge because God’s Word makes us wise unto salvation.
When we understand who Jesus truly is, every counterfeit spiritual system loses its appeal. The Christian life has never been about discovering secret spiritual techniques. It is about walking daily with the risen Savior.
Yet there remains one powerful biblical example that illustrates where the occult ultimately leads. Before Israel’s first king died, he turned away from God’s counsel and sought supernatural guidance through a forbidden source. His story serves as one of Scripture’s clearest warnings about the danger of seeking spiritual answers apart from the Lord.
King Saul and the Witch of Endor
Few accounts in Scripture illustrate the danger of the occult more vividly than the final days of King Saul. Saul did not begin his reign as an idolater.
🔹 He was chosen by God.
🔹 Anointed by the prophet Samuel.
🔹 Empowered to lead Israel.
In fact, early in his reign Saul even removed mediums and those who practiced occult arts from the land in obedience to God’s law. Yet years of disobedience gradually hardened his heart. Instead of repenting when God corrected him, Saul repeatedly chose his own way. Eventually, the relationship between Saul and the Lord became so strained that God no longer answered him.
📖 1 Samuel 28:6 – “And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.”
🔎 God had not become unfaithful. Saul had repeatedly rejected the Lord’s counsel until his heart became hardened. The silence Saul experienced was the result of persistent rebellion, not a lack of God’s willingness to save those who truly repent.
Faced with the approaching Philistine army and overwhelmed by fear, Saul made a decision that would forever mark his legacy. Rather than humbling himself before God, he sought help from the very practice he had once condemned.
📖 1 Samuel 28:7 – “Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit…”
🔎 Fear often tempts people to seek immediate answers wherever they can find them. Instead of waiting upon the Lord, Saul turned to a forbidden source for guidance. His desperation did not justify his disobedience.
Saul disguised himself and traveled by night to the town of Endor, where a medium lived in secret. There he requested something God had expressly forbidden. He asked the woman to bring up Samuel from the dead. The account that follows has generated much discussion throughout Christian history.
Many assume Samuel himself literally appeared. Yet Scripture gives us strong reasons to question that conclusion. The Bible consistently teaches that the dead are unconscious until the resurrection.
📖 Ecclesiastes 9:5 – “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing…”
🔎 The Bible describes death as a state of unconscious sleep awaiting the resurrection. Those who have died are not wandering the earth or communicating with the living. This makes communication with the dead impossible apart from deceptive spiritual influences.
Likewise, Isaiah warned against seeking messages through mediums.
📖 Isaiah 8:19 – “…should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?”
🔎 God’s question exposes the absurdity of seeking guidance from the dead instead of the living God. Rather than encouraging communication with departed spirits, Scripture repeatedly directs people back to the Lord and His revealed Word.
If the dead cannot communicate with the living, then who—or what—was speaking through the medium? The Bible points to a sobering answer. Throughout Scripture, evil spirits are shown to possess supernatural knowledge and the ability to deceive. Satan’s greatest weapon has always been counterfeit.
🔸 He imitates truth.
🔸 He imitates miracles.
🔸 He disguises himself as an angel of light.
It should not surprise us that he can also counterfeit the appearance or voice of a deceased person in order to deceive. Whether through the medium herself or through demonic impersonation, Saul believed he was receiving a message from Samuel. Yet the tragedy of the account is not found merely in the supernatural event. It is found in where Saul chose to seek counsel.
Instead of turning to God in repentance…He sought answers through forbidden spiritual means. That choice sealed the course he had already set. The inspired record later explains exactly why Saul died.
📖 1 Chronicles 10:13–14 – “So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD… and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; And enquired not of the LORD…”
🔎 Scripture itself gives the interpretation of the event. Saul’s downfall was not simply that he visited a medium. It was that he rejected God’s counsel and deliberately sought guidance from a forbidden spiritual source. His story stands as a permanent warning against turning anywhere other than the Lord for spiritual direction.
Saul’s tragedy remains deeply relevant today, even if the methods may have changed.
🔸 Today people may consult tarot cards instead of mediums.
🔸 Horoscopes instead of oracles.
🔸 Spirit guides instead of familiar spirits.
🔸 Psychics instead of necromancers.
Yet the underlying question remains exactly the same: Who will we trust for guidance? Will we seek the living God through His Word…Or will we look elsewhere for answers He has already told us not to seek?
The Bible leaves no doubt which path leads to life. Yet the New Testament also records individuals who became involved in occult practices—and unlike Saul, some of them experienced something wonderfully different. They encountered Jesus Christ, abandoned their former ways, and found complete freedom. Their stories remind us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s redeeming grace.
When the Gospel Confronted Witchcraft
One of the beautiful truths of Scripture is that while God strongly condemns witchcraft and the occult, He never abandons those who have become entangled in them. Throughout the New Testament, we find men and women who practiced magic, sorcery, and occult arts.
🔸 Some opposed the gospel.
🔸 Some attempted to corrupt it.
Others, however, encountered Jesus Christ and left their former lives behind forever. The difference was not found in the power of magic. It was found in the infinitely greater power of the gospel.
Simon the Sorcerer
One of the earliest encounters between Christianity and the occult occurred in the city of Samaria. There lived a man named Simon who amazed the people through sorcery.
📖 Acts 8:9–11 – “But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria… giving out that himself was some great one…”
🔎 Simon had gained influence through supernatural displays that caused many people to believe he possessed extraordinary power. Rather than pointing people to God, his practices drew attention to himself and left the people spiritually deceived.
When Philip preached Christ, however, something remarkable happened.
📖 Acts 8:12 – “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized…”
🔎 The gospel accomplished what magic never could. It transformed hearts. The people who had once followed Simon’s sorcery now followed Jesus Christ because His truth proved greater than every counterfeit. Simon himself professed belief and was baptized. Yet Peter soon exposed that Simon’s heart had not truly been transformed.
Instead of seeking Christ, Simon attempted to purchase the power of the Holy Spirit.
📖 Acts 8:20–21 – “Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money… thy heart is not right in the sight of God.”
🔎 Simon still viewed spiritual power as something to possess and control. The Holy Spirit is not a force to manipulate but the third Person of the Godhead, graciously given by God according to His will. Christianity is not about acquiring power—it is about surrendering to Christ.
This serves as a warning for every generation. Many seek spiritual power. God seeks surrendered hearts.
Elymas the Sorcerer
Another encounter occurred on the island of Cyprus. A sorcerer named Elymas opposed the preaching of the gospel.
📖 Acts 13:8 – “But Elymas the sorcerer… withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.”
🔎 False spirituality does not remain neutral. It ultimately resists the truth of God’s Word and seeks to keep people from placing their faith in Jesus Christ. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Paul confronted the deception directly.
📖 Acts 13:10 – “O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness…”
🔎 These are some of the strongest words recorded in the New Testament. Paul was not attacking Elymas as a person but exposing the spiritual influence behind his actions. The issue was not merely false ideas—it was active opposition to the saving work of Christ.
The result was immediate. Elymas was struck with temporary blindness. The Roman governor witnessed the event and believed the gospel. The power of Christ had triumphed over the counterfeit.
The Greatest Bonfire in Ephesus
Perhaps the most encouraging account for anyone trapped in occult practices is found in the city of Ephesus. Many people there had practiced magic for years and some even earned their living through occult arts. Others treasured expensive books containing spells, incantations, and magical formulas. Then they encountered Jesus. What happened next is one of the most powerful scenes of repentance in the entire New Testament.
📖 Acts 19:18–19 – “And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men…”
🔎 Notice that the believers did not attempt to “Christianize” their magic books or keep them as harmless souvenirs. They willingly destroyed the very things that had once enslaved them because they recognized that following Christ required a complete break from their former life.
Luke records the staggering value of what they surrendered.
📖 Acts 19:19 – “…and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.”
🔎 Their repentance was genuine because it cost them something. They valued Jesus Christ more than wealth, possessions, reputation, or the practices that had once defined their lives. True repentance always produces a willingness to leave behind whatever competes with Christ.
What happened after the books were burned is equally significant.
📖 Acts 19:20 – “So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.”
🔎 The victory did not come through arguments alone. It came because the truth of God’s Word broke the hold that darkness had upon people’s lives. Wherever Christ is received, the kingdom of darkness loses its grip.
This is one of the greatest messages of hope in the entire Bible.
🔹 No matter how deeply someone has become involved in Wicca.
🔹 No matter how many tarot readings they have received.
🔹 No matter how many spells they have cast.
🔹 No matter how many years they have spent seeking hidden knowledge.
The grace of Jesus Christ is greater. The same Savior who delivered the believers in Ephesus still delivers today. He does not merely forgive the past. He gives a completely new life. And that leads to perhaps the most important question of all. If someone has practiced Wicca or become involved in the occult, what should they do now? The Bible’s answer is filled with both truth and extraordinary hope.
The Only True Source of Light
Perhaps you have read this study and realized that you have been involved in Wicca, tarot cards, astrology, crystals, spirit guides, spells, manifestation, or other forms of the occult. If so, this article was not written to condemn you. It was written because God loves you.
Throughout Scripture, we see the heart of the Father pursuing people who have wandered far from Him. He called Adam after the fall. He pleaded with rebellious Israel through the prophets. Jesus ate with publicans and sinners. He welcomed the broken, the outcast, and those trapped in lives of sin and deception. The same Savior still calls today. The enemy promises enlightenment but leaves people in spiritual darkness. Jesus offers something entirely different.
📖 John 8:12 – “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
🔎 Every counterfeit spiritual system promises light, wisdom, or enlightenment. Jesus does not merely point us toward the light—He declares that He is the Light. Those who follow Him no longer need to search for hidden knowledge because they have come to the very Source of truth.
🔸 The occult promises hidden power.
🔹 Christ offers His presence.
🔸 The occult promises secret knowledge.
🔹 Christ reveals the truth.
🔸 The occult promises control.
🔹 Christ offers peace.
🔸 The occult points people inward.
🔹 Christ calls us upward.
Many who become involved in Wicca are sincerely searching for purpose, healing, acceptance, or answers to life’s deepest questions. Those longings are real, but they can never be fully satisfied through rituals, spells, crystals, tarot cards, or communion with spirits. Every human heart was created to know its Creator, and until we return to Him, every substitute ultimately leaves us empty.
Jesus extends a beautiful invitation to everyone who is weary from carrying life’s burdens.
📖 Matthew 11:28–30 – “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me… For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
🔎 Christ does not invite us into another complicated system of rituals or secret knowledge. He simply invites us to come to Him. The rest He offers is deeper than emotional relief—it is the peace of being reconciled to God through His grace.
If you possess tarot cards, occult books, spell books, crystals used for spiritual purposes, charms, or other objects connected with occult practices, follow the example of the believers in Ephesus. They did not preserve reminders of their former life or attempt to blend them with their new faith. They willingly put them away because they had found something infinitely greater in Jesus Christ.
Most importantly, turn to the Lord in sincere repentance. He is ready to forgive.
📖 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
🔎 No sin is beyond the reach of God’s grace. Whether someone has spent days or decades involved in the occult, the blood of Jesus Christ is sufficient to forgive, cleanse, and restore all who genuinely come to Him in repentance and faith. Remember, Satan’s first lie in Eden was, “Ye shall be as gods.” God’s final invitation is infinitely more beautiful.
📖 Revelation 22:17 – “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come… And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”
🔎 The Bible closes not with an invitation to discover hidden mysteries, but with an invitation to receive eternal life as a free gift. Salvation cannot be earned through rituals, purchased through knowledge, or attained through spiritual techniques. It is found only through Jesus Christ.
As we near the close of earth’s history, the battle between truth and deception is becoming increasingly intense. Ancient paganism has returned with modern names, modern packaging, and modern technology, yet it still echoes the serpent’s oldest lie. God, however, has not changed. His Word remains true. His Spirit still convicts. His Son still saves.
The question has never been whether spiritual power exists. The question is whose voice we will follow. Will we listen to the serpent, who promises power but leads to death? Or will we follow the Good Shepherd, who laid down His life that we might live?
📖 John 14:6 – “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
🔹 There are not many paths to God.
🔹 There are not many sources of spiritual truth.
🔹 There is one Savior.
🔹 One Redeemer.
🔹 One Shepherd.
🔹 One Mediator.
🔹 One Light in a world growing darker by the day.
His name is Jesus Christ.
🔹 Choose Him.
🔹 Follow Him.
🔹 Trust Him.
For in Him alone is forgiveness, freedom, truth, and everlasting life.
📖 2 Corinthians 4:6 – “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
