The Three Angels' Messages - First Angel
Revelation 14:6-7: And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
“Another angel fly in the midst of heaven“: The imagery of an angel flying in the midst of heaven suggests a message that is universal and divine in origin, intended to be heard by all people on earth.
“Having the everlasting gospel“: This emphasizes the timeless and unchanging nature of the gospel, which is the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. The term “everlasting” indicates that this gospel is not new but has been God’s message of salvation throughout history.
“To preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people”: This phrase underscores the inclusivity of the gospel message. It is meant for every human being, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, language, or social group.
“Saying with a loud voice, Fear God“: The loud voice indicates the urgency and importance of the message. To “fear God” in this context means to have reverence and awe for God, acknowledging His authority and power.
“And give glory to him“: This call is for humanity to honor and worship God through their lives and actions, reflecting His character and acknowledging His sovereignty.
Much like the word bride is used to depict the true church of Christ, so also the word “lamb” is used to depict Christ who became our lamb of sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins.
“For the hour of his judgment is come“: This declaration signifies that God’s judgment is imminent. It serves as a warning and a call to repentance, reminding humanity of the accountability before God.
“And worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters”: This is a call to recognize and worship God as the Creator of all things. It points back to the creation account in Genesis and reinforces the belief in God as the originator and sustainer of life. It also points to God the creator as framed within the Sabbath Commandment Exodus 20:11: “For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
