The Narrow Path – Few Will Find It
In a world flooded with easy answers and comfortable lies, the path to eternal life remains narrow—and often avoided. Jesus didn’t promise popularity, applause, or ease. He promised a cross. The narrow way is marked by surrender, obedience, and truth that pierces flesh but frees the soul. Few will choose it, but those who do will find the only path that leads to life.

Few Will Find It – Jesus’ Warning That Still Echoes
In one of His most sobering declarations, Jesus draws a line between two roads—one that leads to destruction and one that leads to life:
📖 Matthew 7:13–14 – “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
🔎 These aren’t just poetic contrasts—they are eternal realities. Jesus makes it clear: the majority will choose ease, comfort, and self-will. The narrow way is not popular. It’s not effortless. But it is true, holy, and life-giving.
This study will explore what it truly means to walk the narrow path:
🔹 Why few find it
🔹 What it costs to stay on it
🔹 And how God empowers those who choose it to endure to the end.
Are you truly walking the narrow way—or has the wide road been disguised in spiritual language and religious comfort?
The Two Paths – A Biblical Contrast
Jesus didn’t leave room for a middle road. Every soul walks one of two paths—and only one leads to life.
📖 Matthew 7:13–14 – “…broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction… and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life…”
🔎 These paths are not just different in destination—they are opposite in nature. One pleases the flesh. The other crucifies it. One is filled with applause. The other is often walked alone. But only one ends in eternal life.
The Broad Path – Comfortable but Costly
🔸 It welcomes all lifestyles—no repentance required, no truth embraced.
🔸 It’s popular because it promises freedom while hiding the chains.
🔸 It tolerates compromise and redefines love to justify sin.
🔸 It deceives—offering temporary pleasure while leading souls to destruction.
📖 Proverbs 14:12 – “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
📖 1 John 2:15–16 – “Love not the world… the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father.”
🔎 The broad road is paved with good intentions and spiritual half-truths. It feels right, sounds kind, and attracts crowds—but it is a highway to ruin. Why? Because it rejects the transforming truth of Christ.
The Narrow Path – Costly but Worth It
🔹 It is walked by the few—those who choose truth over comfort.
🔹 It demands surrender—not just belief, but obedience.
🔹 It requires striving—resisting sin, denying self, and staying faithful.
🔹 It leads to life—not just in the future, but in the soul today.
📖 Luke 13:24 – “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many… shall not be able.”
📖 John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
🕊️ The narrow way is not about earning salvation—it’s about walking with the One who already paid the price. It is a daily dying to self and a rising in Christ. Few choose it because it costs too much of “self”—but it gives everything of God.
Why Do So Few Find the Narrow Path?
One of the most sobering truths in Scripture is this: You can call Jesus Lord and still be lost.
📖 Matthew 7:21–23 – “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father…”
🔎 It’s not just what we say—it’s what we do. True faith is not passive belief; it’s an obedient walk. Many will be shocked on that day to find out that their version of “faith” was never real.
The Deception of a Powerless Gospel
🔸 A gospel without repentance is no gospel at all.
🔸 False teachers comfort the flesh while starving the soul.
🔸 Religion without obedience becomes tradition without transformation.
📖 2 Timothy 4:3–4 – “They will not endure sound doctrine… and shall turn away their ears from the truth.”
🔎 Today, many sit in churches that never speak of sin, judgment, or holiness. They are fed stories and slogans—while truth is silenced. But the gospel of Christ calls for change. It demands a turning from sin and a turning to righteousness.
The Love of the World Chokes the Word
🔸 You cannot walk toward Christ while chasing the world.
🔸 Careers, entertainment, and self-pleasure become idols.
🔸 The world offers comfort now—but costs eternity later.
📖 James 4:4 – “Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?”
🔎 Many think they’re saved because they “believe” in Jesus, yet their heart belongs to the world. They know the lyrics to worship songs—but not the weight of surrender. You can’t love the cross and the culture that nailed Christ to it.
Fear of Rejection Keeps Many from Truth
👣 The narrow road is often lonely—ridiculed, misunderstood, and despised.
👣 Many stay silent for fear of offending others.
👣 But Jesus never called us to be liked—He called us to be faithful.
📖 John 15:19 – “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own… but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”
🕊️ The fear of man is a trap. Those who seek the approval of people will never walk fully in the will of God. But those who endure for His name will receive a reward that cannot be shaken.
The Cost of Discipleship – Carrying the Cross, Not Just the Name
Following Christ is more than belief—it’s surrender. It’s not simply calling Him Lord—it’s obeying His voice even when it hurts. The narrow path is costly because it demands your life.
📖 Luke 14:27 – “And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.”
🔎 Jesus never sugarcoated the cost. He said to count it—to weigh it—and follow anyway. The wide road invites you to keep your pride, your habits, your comfort. But the narrow path says, “Lay it down. Deny yourself. Follow Me.”
🔹 It may cost you popularity.
🔹 It may cost you comfort and security.
🔹 It may cost you relationships.
🔹 It will cost your flesh.
But what you gain is priceless:
📖 Matthew 10:39 – “He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.”
🔎 In losing the life the world offers, you gain the eternal life Christ promises. The cross you carry now will be nothing compared to the crown of life awaiting those who endure.
Staying on the Narrow Path – Keys to Endurance
Walking the narrow path isn’t a one-time decision—it’s a daily surrender. The road is steep. The world pulls. The flesh resists. But those who press on with Christ will reach the finish line. The narrow path is not for the passive. It is for those who long to be transformed—who value truth over comfort, and eternity over ease. Jesus never said it would be simple. He said it would be worth it.
📖 Hebrews 12:1–2 – “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…”
🔎 Many begin the race with zeal, but only those who endure in obedience will finish. The narrow path is walked step by step, day by day—with eyes fixed on Jesus.
👉 Daily Surrender
Every day brings a choice: self or Savior. We must die to flesh, crucify old desires, and pick up the cross.
📖 Luke 9:23 – “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
👉 Stay Rooted in the Word
The Bible is the lamp for our feet and the guardrail for our soul. Without it, we drift.
📖 Psalm 119:105 – “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
👉 Pray for Strength
We cannot walk this path in our own strength. Prayer is our lifeline—our connection to divine power.
📖 1 Thessalonians 5:17 – “Pray without ceasing.”
👉 Separate from Sin
Holiness requires separation. Not isolation—but distinction. We must reject compromise and walk in truth.
📖 2 Corinthians 6:17 – “Come out from among them, and be ye separate…”
👉 Endure Hardship
Trials will come. Temptation will whisper. But endurance is the evidence of real faith.
📖 2 Timothy 2:3 – “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”
🔎 Don’t mistake hardship as a sign of being off course. On the narrow path, suffering is often proof you’re exactly where you need to be.
🕊️ You won’t walk the narrow path perfectly—but you must walk it faithfully. Christ didn’t call you to comfort; He called you to the cross. And if you follow Him all the way—you will find life.
💡 Final Reflection – Will You Walk the Narrow Path?
The choice between the broad road and the narrow path is before us. The broad road is easy, full of pleasures, and widely accepted—but it leads to death and separation from God. The narrow path is difficult, requires self-denial, and is unpopular—but it leads to eternal life.
📖 Deuteronomy 30:19 – “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”
🔎 Choosing the narrow path is choosing eternal life—few will take it, but the reward is beyond measure.
🕊️ Which road will you take? Will you choose the narrow way that leads to life, or the broad way that leads to destruction? The decision is yours.
